Recently there has been sympathy shown towards kingpin kidnapper Evans, which has spread to point that he should be freed. However, there are reasons why the law has to take it's course.
Warning example
The Inspector General of Police Mr. Ibrahim Idris position of death sentence towards kidnappers hits the nail on the head. Well if that stiff action is been taken, those other of his colleagues still in business, will realize that they are threading on a thin line. After all, if Evans with all his sophisticated modus operandi, can be caught then that is red flag for his colleagues.
It would encourage the act
People would start to see kidnapping as lucrative form of business and quick way to make money. Don't be surprised that some novice and experts in the trade, would seek for his advice and his skills. Thus leading to increase in kidnapping in the country.
The wounded victims
There are those whom have felt the effect of Evans activities, either directly or indirectly (been the hostage or as family members of those affected). Although it might appear that some of his victims are well-to-do, that amount of money paid as ransom can be said to be losses. From his activities, lives have been lost which causes pain to their loved ones. On the other hand, the money paid as ransom causes pain to those who are paying it (whether rich or poor) because it is given with tears in their heart.
It undermines the work of security officers.

The rich are accountable
In this country, the wealthy class seem to find a way to bypass the law when an offense is committed. So if this billionaire kidnapper goes down, that will build faith that no one is above the law and that your wealth doesn't give you green card to commit crime.
I would give kudos to the Nigerian Police for having done a good job as regards this matter. The law has to be enforced in full force here because it would discourage the business, kidnapping would be seen with disdain from the public, would give justice to those injured and our security's officials will be given a boost in their morale. Have any other reason for the law to be enforced please comment it will be appreciated.
